Damiler Trucks NA Expands in Oregon – Damiler Trucks North America announced this summer that it will expand its corporate headquarters in Portland. This represents an investment of over $150 million and the creation of 400 new jobs. This will bring the company’s Portland headcount to more than 1,500. The company has had a facility in this city for 70 years.

Oregon’s GDP One of Nation’s Highest – According to the United States Bureau of Economic Analysis last year Oregon’ s real gross domestic product growth of almost 4 percent ranked third in the country behind only North Dakota and Texas. The manufacturing sector was an important part of this growth with an 11.4 percent increase, the largest among the state’s business sectors.

Business Oregon Lists Leading State Business SectorsBusiness Oregon is the state’s economic development agency. Its goal is to create, retain, expand and attract businesses that provide good, sustainable employment opportunities. While the state has a breath of diverse industries it has identified five key business sectors; advanced manufacturing, clean technology, forestry and wood products, high technology and outdoor gear and activewear.

Oregon is the home of Nike, Columbia Sportswear and Adidas America.

Bioscience Incubator Filled Quickly – The Oregon Translational Research and Development Institute (OTRADI) reported that the state’s first bioscience specific incubator was filled two months within its opening. The facility is expected to create more than 50 high skill jobs for Oregon’s bioscience business sector in its first years of operation. OTRADI Executive Director Jennifer Fox, Ph.D. said “Bioscience incubators around the nation have been successful in helping start-ups grow into prosperous enterprises.”

UK Bicycle Company Locates North American Headquarters in Oregon – Islabikes a widely respected British children’s bicycle company selected Portland as the site for its United States headquarters. The company is one of the world’s leading designers and manufacturers of these products. Isakbikes was founded by renowned bicycle designer Isla Rowntree. Her bikes have established high brand loyalty and use ergonomics as a key design feature.

Global Logistics Firm Expands in Portland – Long Beach, CA based UTi Worldwide chose Portland as the site for one of its three worldwide information technology centers. The company operates logistics centers in 23 countries from which it provides air and sea supply chain management. The Oregon center represents a consolidation of a number of IT operations.
Transportation, warehousing and utilities are important industries in the state employing upwards of 330,000 people.
