Deloitte is helping support the Wayne-Westland Community School District’s Atlas Robotics team as they travel to compete at the 2023 FIRST Robotics Championship in Houston. The Atlas team consists of 11 students from John Glenn and Wayne Memorial High Schools in Wayne-Westland Community School District in Michigan.

When/Where: April 19 – April 22, 2023; George R. Brown Convention Center, Houston, Texas

What: Team Atlas will compete against 600 other teams in special playing fields using robots they designed, built, and programmed. The Atlas team has quickly risen to the top, winning Michigan’s All-Star Rookie award, following their initial foray into science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) projects via Deloitte’s national Smart Factory Believers program.

The program, which started as part of the philanthropy mission of Deloitte’s Smart Factory @ Wichita, provides new STEM education kits called the Smart Rover to students in underserved communities in the United States. Inspired by their work with the Smart Rover, these students have taken their STEM skills to the next level, enabling them to compete at the national level at the FIRST Championship. The district was one of the first to take part in the program, and Deloitte is helping support the team’s travel to Houston.

Deloitte is proud to support the Wayne-Westland District’s Atlas team and is committed to fostering the next generation of STEM talent.

About the Smart Factory Believers Program: In line with its commitment to philanthropy and STEM education, Deloitte’s manufacturing experience center, The Smart Factory @ Wichita joined forces with Elenco Electronics, AWS, and other collaborators to help produce and distribute a new STEM education product: the Smart Rover kit – a STEM-forward 21st century learning experience. Produced on The Factory’s state-of-the-art production line, the Smart Rover kit incorporates one of Elenco’s award-winning Snap Circuits kits, the Snap Rover, with a Raspberry Pi microcomputer and camera module to educate students on product design, coding and engineering. The program’s mission is to inspire the next generation of diverse innovators to fill the growing talent gap in critical STEM-focused areas. With initial donations impacting 1,000 middle school students in Metro Detroit, Philadelphia and Wichita in 2022, Deloitte aims to reach 800,000 students in the U.S. over four years to foster long-term systemic impact in STEM education.
