Music events embrace sustainable energy, using kinetic technology, to turn dancing energy into power for the booth/microphones and lights.
Pavegen, the UK-based technology company renowned for its kinetic energy-generating floor tiles, used the energy from people dancing to power a music performance by British dance act Rudimental. It captivated the audience at the ‘sold-out’ UEFA Champions Festival Show in Trafalgar Square.
The event, held in conjunction with the Champions Innovate Programme and Rockstar Energy Drink, showcased Pavegen’s innovative technology, making history as the first time a music artist in Trafalgar Square has been powered by the kinetic energy of event participants.
The event, presented by Rockstar Energy Drink and headlined by the BRIT Award winning band Rudimental, was the highlight of the festival, blending the excitement of football and music, drawing a diverse crowd of fans.
Over 6,300 attendees danced on Pavegen’s kinetic tiles which helped power Rudimental’s DJ booth and microphone during their high energy set. This interactive installation provided an immersive fan experience and showcased Pavegen’s commitment to off-grid energy generation and sustainable energy solutions.
Participants expressed their delight at the experience. Daniel, a festival goer from London commented, “I really like this dance floor, it’s great, it feels so responsive – it’s cool that it’s the first time ever something like this has been done in Trafalgar Square!” Amir from Surrey added, “It’s amazing how the floor is making electricity for the show. It makes me want to dance more!”
Laurence Kemball-Cook, CEO of Pavegen, remarked: “Our participation in the UEFA Champions Festival has been a phenomenal success, it’s so simple, you just need to dance to generate power on our technology. Feeling the energy and enthusiasm from the crowd and seeing Pavegen in action, powering such an iconic event, was truly inspiring. We’re proud to partner with UEFA and Rockstar Energy to demonstrate how innovative solutions can drive sustainability and community engagement.”
Bart LaCount, Vice President of International Beverages Marketing at PepsiCo, commented, “Last weekend marked the return of the Friday Night Show, where we were able to literally light up Trafalgar Square. The collaboration between Rockstar Energy Drink and Pavegen allowed us to take energy to another level. Fans danced the night away while also contributing to power the event – thanks to the kinetic dance floor.
“Following the show, we will continue our partnership with Pavegen into the future as the kinetic energy dance floor will be repurposed for further use, together sustainably fuelling and powering a summer of music experiences.”
With attendees from over 100 countries, the UEFA Champions Festival in Trafalgar Square showcased Pavegen’s ability to blend innovation with entertainment, leaving a lasting impression on participants and setting a new standard for sustainable event experiences.
