Best, Netherlands: Consumers are becoming increasingly dependent on digital services, and E-commerce is not excused from efficient service delivery. To guarantee quick and precise fulfilment, retailers need to set up systems that automate order processing, picking, packing, and shipping. Especially since e-commerce orders are typically smaller and more frequent than traditional retail orders, which creates an additional service delivery issue, warehouses and fulfilment centres must have effective order management systems.

Showcasing at LogiMat 2024:

Along with other leading companies in the industry, Smart Robotics, the global specialist in robotics for warehouse automation, is pleased to present its state-of-the-art technology at LogiMat 2024 in Stuttgart. The latest technologies on display demonstrate the constant advancements in warehouse automation and the trend toward Smart Pick & Place systems in the logistics sector, which aim to fast-track warehouse processes.

As a means to support order management, Smart Robotics engineered the Smart Mixed Case Palletizer. The Smart Mixed Case Palletizer is an industrial robot pick & place station, designed to improve warehouse delivery speed by removing one of the biggest bottlenecks, which is manual palletizing of mixed SKUs.

“Customer demands are ever changing and with timely deliveries becoming an even greater factor in customer satisfaction, brands and retailers cannot afford delivery delays stemming from insufficient warehousing processes. By implementing the Smart Mixed Case Palletizer, item handling can be achieved with greater speed and accuracy at distribution centres, which better enables same day delivery.” – Heico Sandee, CEO at Smart Robotics.

Enhancing Efficient Warehouse Grid Planning through Automation:

By using warehouse automation technology, the robot enables another step towards touchless shipping and allows large distribution centres to pre-sort to multiple destinations without increasing shipping FTEs. Decentralised warehousing grids can be planned more efficiently when automating this phase in the logistics process to cut back on parcel travel time, since the Smart Mixed Case Palletizer aims to reduce multiple steps in the warehouse and distribution network.

Playing Tetris with Next-Generation Palletizing Solutions:

As the next-gen version of its predecessor, the Smart Palletizer, the Smart Mixed Case Palletizer is able to stack mixed cases. The robot’s stacking behaviour is not limited to packages that are of the same size or weight, and it can predict its own stacking sequence, as if playing Tetris, whereas traditional palletizing solutions rely on predefined stacking patterns to palletize goods of the same size, weight, and shape. The Smart Mixed Case Palletizer does not rely on a predetermined stacking pattern, meaning the robot can govern itself to efficiently sort and stack randomly mixed parcels as they come in. This not only stands to improve order pick and place but also supports the overall finessing of automated mixed case palletizing.

Essentially, the Smart Mixed Case Palletizer allows for improved warehouse capacity by automatically stacking goods for delivery from the main warehouse to the respective receiving location – without warehouse floor workers having to manually pick & place goods. Since consumers are shopping more online, the retail and e-commerce sector has experienced a sharp influx of parcels moving through their respective warehouses. Higher order volumes and the digital customers’ demand for frictionless shopping and shipping procedures have left many Operational and Logistics Managers in need of optimised outbound shipping processes for same or next day delivery.

Currently, the Smart Mixed Case Palletizer has impressive capabilities, handling up to 500 parcels per hour. It’s equipped to manage packages exceeding 30 kg in weight and can stack them efficiently, reaching heights above 2 meters. Unlike traditional systems, the Smart Mixed Case Palletizer doesn’t rely on predefined sequencing or stacking patterns. Instead, its advanced AI technology analyses each parcel to determine the optimal position for both volume and stability, ensuring precise and secure palletization.
