Our Strategic Advantage – It’s no longer a secret…JOBehaviors.

Our clients tell us time and time again that the quality of people that we place is better than our competition. Clients have kicked their current supplier of temporary employees to the curb to have access to New Era HR’s employees. We have helped more than a dozen clients completely “upgrade” their workforce.

How is that possible? Aren’t all staffing agencies drawing from the same local pool of people?

Yes, indeed they are. However, New Era HR uses a screening tool called JOBehaviors as the first step in our application for employment. Score a 3, 4, or 5-star rating on the JOBehaviors assessment and you are granted an interview. Score a 1 or 2-star and we send you the name of our competitor. Once you get the interview, you still need to pass three additional assessments, interview with a recruiter, pass a drug test, a background check, and verify your right to work in the USA. And, finally, you must complete three safety related training courses. And, yes, all of that for a $10.00 – $12.00/hour job!

But here is why. New Era HR offers opportunity. Most of our jobs are temp to hire. Most of our relationships with our clients include an “at-will conversion” which means you can be offered a job with the client anytime without the client paying a fee. New Era HR has a great client base because of our screening tools and our ability to consistently place great employees.

Want some stats to back this up? The following correlates the JOBehaviors star rating with results on our other skills assessments:

  • 3-star candidates score 17% higher on skills tests than the 1 and 2 star candidates.
  • 4-star candidates score 21% higher on skills tests than 1 and 2 star candidates.
  • 5-star candidates score 35% higher on skills tests than 1 and 2-star candidates.

We can predict higher test scores using the JOBehaviors screening tool. Higher test scores indicate a greater aptitude for the work they will be performing.

Need more statistics? Consider the following JOBehaviors scores in relation to injuries for 2014:

  • 1-star and 2-star employees had 18 injuries and missed work or had restrictions a total of 423 days.
  • 3-star employees had 9 injuries and missed or had restrictions a total of 324 days.
  • 4-star employees had 3 injuries and missed or had restrictions a total of 39 days.
  • 5-star employees had 6 injuries and missed or had restrictions a total of 11 days.

When looking at these numbers, keep in mind that we utilized very few of the 1 and 2-star employees. They represented less than 15% of our workforce but represented the vast majority of injuries and related missed work. 5-Star employees are typically safer, and as important, they are less likely to miss work if they do get injured because they have the right working BEHAVIORS!

Why in the world would we ever put to work a 1 or 2-star employee? We don’t any more. But keep in mind, 1 and 2-star employees are not bad people. They just don’t exude the type of behaviors for a successful employee in our industry. We experimented and it bit us in the butt. We thought we could find a great place for the 1 and 2-star employees to work. We were wrong. But we did learn.

That’s our secret sauce. That’s our strategic advantage. Why are we sharing it? Because we all benefit when our industry improves employee outcomes.
