Manufacturing Day 2023 - Industry Today - Leader in Manufacturing & Industry News

MFG Day is October 6, 2023 and is manufacturing’s opportunity to inspire the next generation and showcase careers in modern manufacturing.

This Friday, October 6, is Manufacturing Day. Starting in 2012, this event is held on the first Friday of October to organize job fairs, exhibitions, factory tours, and seminars for high school students, educators, parents, and community members to promote the importance of manufacturing and the many opportunities to pursue manufacturing as a career. Sponsored by the Fabricators and Manufacturers’ Association (FMA), the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM), the Manufacturing Institute, and various federal agencies, including the U.S. Census Bureau, over 14,000 manufacturers participate in country-wide celebrations during the entire month that kick off on Friday.

Naturally, we here at Industry Today have been covering Manufacturing Day almost since its inception. In fact, we’ve been doing it so long, we published our first piece back when we were still publishing a printed magazine.

More recently, the most recent edition of our digital magazine covered The State of 21st Century Manufacturing. The Industry Today online platform this month covers AI in Company Vehicles, How Manufacturers Are Gearing Up for Machine Learning, How AI is Transforming Skills in Manufacturing, and Bridging the Gap Between Humans and Automation, among other relevant topics.

Specific to the Friday kickoff to generate interest in manufacturing careers , take a look at our coverage of Manufacturing Day Resources for Students. To celebrate National Manufacturing Day, the STEM Careers Coalition™ – the first-of-its-kind national STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) initiative powered by corporate leaders and anchored in schools by Discovery Education – offers resources for interested students and others pursuing new careers to explore the world of modern manufacturing. With over 4 million manufacturing positions predicted to be available in the next ten years, the new resources from the STEM Careers Coalition connect today’s students to the manufacturing careers of tomorrow.

How is your organization celebrating Manufacturing Day? What are you doing year-round to bridge the manufacturing labor gap to attract and retain skilled talent? To share your thoughts and experiences, see our editorial guidelines
