May 28, 2019

Many people are faced with the dilemma of choosing the best-suited computer for their software design and programming needs. First, let’s look at what software design and programming are: it is the process of developing a software interface, programming its inner workings, testing its various functions, documenting the entire process and providing maintenance. It is a process that requires a lot of computing resources; thus, you need a computer that will meet the minimum requirements for such a task.

The first choice you are likely to be faced with is whether or not you need a desktop computer or a portable laptop/ notebook. Both these types of devices have their advantages and disadvantages, and it all depends on a person’s preferences. For instance, desktop computers are mostly considered because of their ability to easily improve their performance by including some additional hardware and software components, thus enhancing their speed and computing ability. However, their major drawback is that when compared to a laptop, it is not as portable.

You may opt for a laptop majorly because of its small size and that you will be able to move around easily. Not so long ago, reliance on desktop computers was higher when compared to laptops. However, with current technological advancements, laptops have become the more popular choice for many software designers and programmers. It is compact, yet adaptable to run resource-intensive applications at any time you need it, whether it is in class, on the road, or at work you can easily move around with your laptop. This is evident as any professional programming essay writer will tell you that it is considerably more comfortable to work on your laptop than on a desktop computer.

Comparison of The Specifications Provided by Both Desktop Computers and Laptops

Many people are stuck between choosing a desktop computer or a laptop, this is because they do not understand what they offer and how it can contribute to the progression of their software design and programming projects. Below is a quick guide of the various computer specifications provided in both desktop computers and laptops to help you choose the best device for your design and programming tasks. They include:

  • Screen sizes

Desktop computers offer a wider variety of screen sizes compared to laptops. A laptop with a screen between 12.5 and 15.6 inches provides the best balance between portability and usability. However, a desktop computer with no need for portability will often have a broader range of screens from 14 inches to well over 32 inches.

  • Processing capability

This refers to the Random-Access Memory (RAM) for speed and the Central Processing Unit (CPU) for computations, which are somewhat similar for both desktop computers and laptops. However, desktop computers have an added advantage due to their size, i.e., additional cooling to help thing run even smoother.

  • Power Backup

With desktop computers, a power backup system is a standalone system that is bought separately to ensure that you have enough time to store your information in case of a power outage. On the other hand, laptops have a dedicated/ in-built battery pack that you do not have to spend extra to get.

  • Operating systems

Today, both desktop computers and laptops can easily handle the requirements of various operating systems such as Mac OS, Windows, Linux, and Chrome OS. Also, you have the option of installing more than one operating system within the same device.

  • Budget

In the past, the cost of laptops was at an all-time high compared to the cost of desktop computers. Today the reverse is true, as the supply for laptops has increased, and their prices are now more affordable and well within the budget, offering portability, and functionality at a reduced cost.

As you can see, there are various factors that you need to consider before buying either a desktop computer or a laptop for your software design and programming projects. This is mainly because most software development platforms are not that resource intensive. When you compare most computer related activities such as rendering and gaming, a laptop would be the better option.

Also, about its portability, you will need to move around a lot when working on your project, whether at work or in school as you research and consult with your teachers/ clients. Therefore, it is highly recommended that you settle for a laptop as it offers the most convenient specifications that will allow you to complete any software design or programming assignment efficiently and effectively.
