Revolutionary mobile scanning upgrade: unveiling the WDS Mobile Engine for warehousing and logistics.
Wireless Data Systems, Inc. (WDS) today announced the launch of a new mobile scanning product to revolutionize the warehousing and logistics industry. The WDS Mobile Engine is the latest upgrade to the company’s mobile scanning application and allows modern scanners, tablets, laptops, desktops, and smartphones to seamlessly run WDS applications.
WDS has made over 30 years of contributions to mobile, enterprise-wide data collection and real-time validation. This upgrade to functionality and accessibility enables lightning-fast scanning and validation processes through the company’s proprietary mobile development engine, keeping the customization process agile and efficient.
“From the early days of WDS, we understood two things,” began David Whitt, President and CEO of Wireless Data Systems, Inc.
“The first was that real-time data was very powerful and was becoming a possibility with narrow-band wireless (years before spread spectrum, and eventually, Wi-Fi).
The second was that those customers in identical industries, shipping the same products, had processes in their supply chain that were unique to them, which means our software solutions needed to be modifiable or customizable.”
“With this understanding,” David continued, “we developed the handheld engine that allows us to create a sequence of prompts on a mobile device that collects data in real-time and validates the data for every prompt.”
At the core of the design is an architecture that allows WDS to build the prompting sequence in the data collection sequence very quickly.
“While most mobile devices have hundreds or thousands of unique screens, our Engine product has a single screen that acts as a blank canvas, allowing for the prompting sequence to be displayed on the fly. We capture each one of the handheld transactions in real-time, viewable via management screens,” David explained.
“The audit trail of all the transactions becomes a gold mine of fresh and valuable information and a visualization of everything happening on the warehouse floor as it occurs.”
The WDS Mobile Engine introduces novel features aimed at reducing manual entry and boosting accuracy. The user interface has transformed, enabling real-time delivery of dynamic information during warehouse operations.
In addition to implementing this new product, Wireless Data Systems, Inc. is dedicated to pursuing continuous improvement:
The launch of the WDS Mobile Engine is only one of many planned service and product upgrades and enhancements to come from WDS in 2023 and 2024.
