A look at the different types of industrial heat exchangers.

Industrial heat exchanges are an important component in most industries. They are used in a variety of settings and most of them work in a similar manner. They are used to heat materials and fluids and can be installed as part of a larger heating system. Below, we will look at some of the options available.

Suction Heaters

Suction heaters consist of a tube bundle which is mounted inside a shell. The shell is closed on one end and open on the other. They use a variety of thermal fluids as heat transfer mediums. Some of these thermal fluids include steam and hot oil. The heat transfer medium heats various types of materials as they pass through a heat exchanger.

Suction heaters do not heat all the material in a storage tank. Rather, they heat just the materials that flow through them.

They are a good option for industries and companies that need to heat materials as they flow from a storage tank and through an exchanger.

Bayonet Heaters

Bayonet heaters are fabricated to be installed inside storage tanks. Bayonet heaters have several coiled tubes that are in contact with the fluid inside the storage tank. They are different from other types of heat exchangers in that they can heat all the material inside a storage tank rather than the material that flows through or over them.

Bayonet heaters are a good option in industries that require a heat exchanger that is capable of heating a large quantity of material in one instance.

Shell and Tube Heat Exchangers

Shell and tube heat exchangers have a lot of applications because they can be used to heat a wider variety of materials including water-based fluids and asphalt. They use steam or hot oil to heat these materials.

They feature bare tube exchangers and are fabricated the same as suction heaters with one key difference; instead of being placed inside a storage tank where they are directly in contact with the material being heated, they are placed outside the storage tank.

These heat exchangers are best suited where a company needs a heat exchanger that will not take up too much space and where they need just the material flowing through the exchanger heated.

Choosing the Right Industrial Heat Exchanger

An industrial heat exchanger is a massive investment. That is why it is so important that you do your research before selecting one. When you do this, you will get the heat exchanger that is not only right for your industry but also one that will give you the best return on investment.
