Manufacturers need to look beyond AI labels and identify ERP systems that deliver real automation on the production floor.

Cutting Through the “AI-Powered” Label

Every ERP vendor now claims an AI story, and most of those stories don’t survive a direct question about what the AI actually does on a production line. A chat window layered over the reporting screen is a different product entirely from an agent that reconciles a goods receipt against a purchase order without a human touching a keyboard, and manufacturing leaders evaluating ERP this year need a way to separate the two before a vendor call goes any further.

The first question worth asking is whether the system can be instructed in plain language and actually act, not just answer. Pulling a report is easy. Setting up a new supplier, generating a purchase order off a demand signal, or approving a reconciliation through a natural-language request is where the AI either proves its worth or reveals itself as a search bar wearing a nicer interface.

The second is where the agents actually operate. Manufacturing generates a steady stream of repetitive, rules-governed work across finance, procurement, and the plant floor: invoice matching, vendor onboarding, demand forecasting, production scheduling, bill of materials updates. Specialized agents embedded in those specific workflows, operating inside a company’s existing approval matrix and permission structure, hand real hours back to operations and finance teams. Finance agents handle journal entries, receipt postings, and bank reconciliations under the same approval gates and role-based access already governing the rest of the ERP, so the automation doesn’t outpace the audit and compliance controls a manufacturer depends on.

What separates Priority for production environments is how the platform connects outward. Priority Software’s manufacturing ERP integrates with MES, PLM, and shop floor equipment through documented REST APIs and ODBC connectivity, so smart machines, IoT sensors, and robotics on the line feed the same system running demand forecasting and capacity planning, rather than sitting in a separate silo someone has to reconcile by hand at month end. That single source of truth spanning the top floor and shop floor addresses a gap a lot of manufacturers run into when MRP and finance were never built to talk to each other in the first place.

3. Microsoft Dynamics 365 with Copilot

Manufacturers already standardized on Microsoft infrastructure will find Copilot integrates with the least friction of anything on this list, hooking into Power BI, Azure, Teams, and Outlook without custom integration work and compounding value across every department already running on those tools.

The 2026 release wave pushed Copilot from a chat-based assistant toward agents that reason across ERP and CRM data, break complex requests into steps, and act within guardrails a manufacturer defines, with agentic capability now reaching sales, finance, and supply chain modules. Microsoft cites up to 50 percent faster invoice processing and 25 to 30 percent faster period-end close in fully deployed environments, though most manufacturers see more modest gains in practice given how much rollout maturity and data readiness vary between sites. A Hannover Messe 2026 demonstration showed agentic ERP running demand planning, production scheduling, and fulfillment decisions across a manufacturing value chain, signaling where Microsoft intends this to head even where not every customer has that live yet.

Where Dynamics 365 falls short of Priority for manufacturing specifically is depth of AI execution inside transactional plant-floor workflows. Copilot drafts and summarizes well, but how much production work the agents actually execute depends heavily on which module a manufacturer is working in, and advanced scenarios often push customers toward ISV add-ons from the AppSource marketplace rather than native capability. Business Central starts at $70 per user per month, with Supply Chain Management at $180 per user per month.

4. Oracle NetSuite with NetSuite Next

Oracle previewed NetSuite Next at SuiteWorld 2025, calling it the platform’s biggest technological shift to date, with the North American rollout beginning around mid-2026 and other regions following through the remainder of 2026 and into 2027.

For manufacturers, the most relevant additions are agentic workflows covering payment proposals, vendor selection, and supply chain operations, alongside a collaborative workspace called AI Canvas where planning teams run scenario analysis against live ERP data instead of exporting numbers into a separate planning tool. Ask Oracle handles natural-language queries well enough that an operations or finance lead can pull something like overdue supplier invoices segmented by region without building a saved search first.

The catch is timing. NetSuite Next remains mid-rollout as of mid-2026, so the agentic capability is newer and less proven in production manufacturing environments than what Priority, SAP, or Microsoft already ship. Manufacturers wrestling with complex multi-entity consolidation and financial complexity as their primary driver should evaluate NetSuite closely, but it’s worth confirming what’s actually live in your region today against what Oracle is still rolling out. Pricing starts at $999 a month plus $99 per user per month.

5. Epicor Kinetic with Prism

Epicor built Prism specifically around operational workflows, making it the most manufacturing-native AI stack on this list, with agents designed from the outset to execute inside supply chain, distribution, and production processes rather than sit on top as a reporting layer.

The architecture runs in three parts: Epicor Lux for governance and security, Prism agents for task execution inside Kinetic, and Agent Foundry for building custom agents as needs grow. Prism’s scope is narrower than Priority or SAP, concentrating on supply chain and production scenarios rather than spanning finance and analytics under one roof, so manufacturers needing AI coverage across the whole business will find more breadth elsewhere on this list. Where Epicor pulls ahead is for manufacturers running complex supplier networks and distribution logistics, where Prism’s purpose-built depth in those workflows is difficult to match elsewhere. Pricing runs $80 per user per month, with Epicor phasing out on-premise support after version 2028.1.

Making the Call

The decision comes down to how deep AI needs to reach into daily production workflows, and what a five-year budget can realistically support once implementation, training, integration, and ongoing support sit alongside the license fee.
