December 10, 2020 Tech and The Web Design Industry

A breakdown of what future technologies have in store for web design solutions and the world at large.

The web design industry, like every part of the collective IT sphere, is always in flux. But perhaps now more than ever, upcoming changes to the future of technology and the Internet seem to be approaching at lightspeed. Let’s break down what future technologies likely have in store for web design industries and the world at large.

What’s in Store for Web Designers

Due to the rapid proliferation and integration of new technologies these days, web design agencies will need to stay agile and adaptable, especially if they want to remain relevant. Even popular, Chicago-based website design companies like FreshySites will need to keep the following developments in mind when expanding and offering their services to clients.

AI and Machine Learning

Will anyone be surprised if and when AI and machine learning become cornerstone technologies across the IT industries? Practically every speculative sci-fi article these days mentions AI and how it’s about to reinvent everything from the ground up!

While that’s not totally likely, it is true that AI will demand heavy changes across most web design and development industries. For instance, web developers will need to take AI into consideration when developing sites or pages for SEO ranking, bots, security, and more.

They may even be able to leverage AI and machine learning tools in their design pipelines!

VR Tech

VR tech is making great strides, particularly in the mobile sphere. It may be that web designers will need to integrate VR and AR tech functionality into existing websites, plus make future websites flexible enough to accommodate users of these technologies.

This is especially true for services that will offer both “regular” web pages on the Internet and services through VR and AR headsets or mobile devices. New web designer jobs may be needed just for this evolution.

Internet of Things Integration

The IoT or Internet of Things is the collection of physical devices and objects outside the Internet that are nonetheless connected to it in one way or another. Examples include the smart refrigerators inside many homes, animals with microchips, and more.

Web designers will need to be up-to-date with how IoT integration is proceeding across industries, especially as they design new sites and pages. Specifically, IoT security will be of paramount concern – no web designer will want to leave a backdoor open on their webpage that might allow a hacker to gain access to a home’s air conditioning or other key systems, for example.

5G Connectivity

The Internet is already quite fast, but 5G connectivity is going to start rolling out universally very soon. This specifically means that web designers will need to change the way they optimize their websites for mobile devices.

Considering that the majority of web traffic already comes from mobile sources, this may involve a total rehash of development pipeline structures, or alternatively cause web designers to build sites for mobile users first and foremost, then develop for desktop users second.

Motion User Interfaces

Lastly, motion user interfaces are also being developed. Though it’s unlikely they’ll see widespread adoption over the next few years, further down the road, they could become the primary means of interfacing with the Internet and IoT.

This will, of course, dramatically change the way web design agencies build webpages and optimize them for user navigation and intuitive control. How a person may theoretically access a website using a motion user interface will undoubtedly be totally different from how they could do so today with a mouse and keyboard or touchscreen.

Summary

Ultimately, the future is bright and interesting, even if it’s also a little scary. But web design agencies that anticipate developments in technology and AI will be well-positioned to adapt with the times and stay relevant, even as the industry shifts around them.
