Mixing and dispersion technology specialist ystral publishes whitepaper on trends in mechanical process engineering.

Ballrechten-Dottingen / Germany. From process intensification to predictive maintenance: ystral – the German mixing and dispersion technology specialist – has published a whitepaper on trends and mega trends in process technology. The whitepaper offers analyses of 13 of the most important developments in mechanical process engineering, not to mention sample applications of innovative process engineering solutions from various industries.

“Depending on the industry, trends in process engineering often turn out to be very different for similar processes,” remarked Dr. Eng. Hans-Joachim Jacob, Senior Process and Applications Expert at ystral. “This is often due to the fact that manufacturers do not know anything about solutions from other industries. That’s why, by publishing this whitepaper, we’d like to do our bit to ensure that users from different areas of the process industry – be it paint and varnish production, or food, pharmaceuticals or cosmetics production – can learn from one another and thereby gain new inspiration for their day-to-day production activities.”

Relevant developments beyond the megatrends

The 30-page whitepaper deals with the following trends: process intensification, pollution-free process control, cleaning machines and plants without cleaning agents, less / no biocides, cold chemistry, intensive processes outside of the vessel, flexible modularisation in process technology, process integration, batch size reduction, twin tank instead of single tank, slurries instead of powder, inline instead of batch, and predictive maintenance. “The further development of process engineering is naturally also characterised by megatrends such as the Smart Factory, cybersecurity or AI,” added Dr. Jacob. “But the main aim of our chosen trends in mechanical process engineering is to make readers aware of possibilities that they didn’t know anything about up until that point – and to thereby perhaps provide them with some eye- opening insights.”
