Industry Today’s Best of the Best: Manufacturing During a Crisis

July 29, 2020 Industry Today’s Best of the Best: Manufacturing During a Crisis

Volume 23 | Issue 2

To state the obvious, the pandemic changed everything but what hasn’t changed is manufacturing’s resilience in responding to new challenges.

Which is why this July edition of Industry Today is a bit changed from our usual coverage of industry trends and company profiles. Because of the impact of COVID-19, we’re focusing entirely on how manufacturers are reacting during this emergency. Which is with innovation and resourcefulness, with an eye on maintaining the safety of their employees while also making substantial contributions to both the safety of first line healthcare providers as well as the comfort and care of victims of the disease.

Manufacturers have stepped up to supply everything from face shields, protective eyewear masks to hand sanitizers to medical equipment. All the while instituting social distancing practices and disinfecting procedures that no one ever anticipated in designing workflows and plant floor production layouts.

This issue reports on the practices and policies implemented by industry to protect their employees and their businesses. Additional coverage recounts how manufactures have reconfigured production, redesigned supply chains to provide, often without cost, desperately needed Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and related support to those most in need. Equally important, we have the latest news on pharmaceutical and biotech industries racing to develop safe new treatments and an eventual vaccine.

The one thing everyone needs in the midst of crisis is accurate, updated and practical information. On our site we share a number of resources to assist companies in the battle against COIV-19, everything from crisis plans to training videos to best practices for safety and business continuity.

It’s our hope that by the time of the next Industry Today issue, things might be more back to normal, as will our regular reportage. But we’re confident during whatever the future may hold, manufacturers continue to work with their customers, their employees and their communities to face and overcome the issues of this peculiar time confronting them.

In the meantime, stay safe, and stay positive.
